Backwards and BOLD!
"For I trust in Your Word.
And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth.
For I have hoped in Your ordinances.
So shall I keep Your law continually,
Forever and ever.
And I will walk at liberty,
For I seek Your precepts."
Palm 119: 42-45
Backwards. I think God's way is totally backwards. This passage from Psalms is only one example, only one facet to the "backwardness" of God. The psalmist's testimony shares the freedom found when all allegiance goes to God. Allegiance to God is not natural. Trusting in His word and not of the "truth utterly out of my mouth" takes practice and tons of believing without seeing (faith). Hoping in God's ordinances is almost impossible....sometimes His ordinances seem, well, weird. Seeking God's precepts takes a lot of effort. All of these actions: trusting, hoping and seeking are exhausting and not for the glorification of me. (Backwards, I said, backwards.)
Interestingly so, throughout history mankind has been willing to do this backwards life of following God. I think that verse 45 explains it all...freedom! There are limitations specific to humans that are binding and constant reminders that as "forward thinking/living" as we are we cannot relieve the binding stresses of life. I can attest that following Christ is a great relief. Knowing that all the trusting and hoping and seeking are focused on my Creator God who's got it all grants me freedom and relieves my stress. I can leave it all up to Him and, as backwards as it seems, freely and boldly LIVE!
"Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen." 1 Timothy 1:17
